We finally left Key West on Sunday May 1st.  It has been an eventful ride so far.  Sunday we rescued two
canoeists and a kayaker that couldn't get back to Islamorada because of strong winds.

Monday we made it to Fort Lauderdale without any excitement.  Tuesday John spotted waterspouts while I
was cleaning up kid puke on our way to Melbourne.  I've learned some fascinating things from kid puke.  For
example; purple grape juice will stain pretty much anything yet thrown-up purple grape juice doesn't.  Go
figure.

Wednesday brought severe wind and thunderstorms as we passed through Daytona on our way to St.
Augustine.  My favorite part was when the Coast Guard broadcast the unconfirmed tornado sightings a mile
south of us.

The Burbines
Thursday we spent five and a half hours
trying to go the last 20 miles to Jekyll
Island, GA.  The predicted 15 to 20 knot
winds turned into 40 knot gusts over the
course of the day.  We managed to run
aground briefly, blow the lid off the
hydraulic steering vent, and figure out that
the windlass is in fact not working.  The
worst part of the day was watching our
friends the Ondrejacks turn around and
head back south not more than 10 miles
from Jekyll Island.  John wanted to keep
heading north today but the boys and I
finally mutinied and took the keys.  Here's
hoping there are lots of boring days
ahead!!
